The woman, who said she routinely accompanied her boyfriend as he served as lookout, said she saw him accept the payoff money and turn over some of the cash to his alleged accomplice. She has told her story to Maywood police officials and the Cook County state`s attorney`s office, authorities said.

The woman, who insisted on anonymity during an interview in the office of her Loop attorney, Patrick Reilly, recounted the ritual in which her former boyfriend and his fellow officer patrolled the area of the Maywood-owned warehouse at 140 S. 7th Ave. to ensure against interference by fellow officers or by state or federal investigators who might have discovered the game`s presence.
Every Friday and Sunday night for nearly a year, she said, the two police officers took turns patrolling the square block perimeter of the warehouse, checking on suspicious cars and monitoring police calls.
'I had a relationship with one of the officers from 1983 until the spring of 1985,' she said. 'I rode frequently with him on his patrols of the warehouse for nearly six months during 1984 and 1985.'

Between them, she said, the officers divided equally the hours between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., when the dice game attracted scores of players on the two nights a week that it operated.
The building, which is two blocks west of the Maywood police station, is owned by the village and leased as a warehouse to Vincent Falzone, a local resident.
In exchange for the patrols, she said, her former boyfriend received $1,000 from the gamblers and paid $200 of that to the officer he had recruited as an assistant for the mob moonlighting job.
Through her statements authorities said they are gaining a rare insight into how crime syndicate gangsters have been able to operate the crap game for more than 10 years in different parts of the Chicago area with almost complete immunity from police.
With the exception of two raids by Chicago police at locations in the city in 1983, the game never has been disturbed.
'If what the witness claims was going on in Maywood for at least a year, it`s pretty obvious why nobody ever `hit` the game in the suburbs,' a veteran Chicago police investigator said. 'Even if the local cops were on the square, they probably were being undermined by corrupt officers.'
Her attorney and police chief Woods said the woman has received repeated threatening telephone calls and that she fears for her life and those of her two small sons.
Phil Raleigh, an assistant state`s attorney, refused to comment on the case because he said the woman`s allegations against the policemen are under investigation.
Woods and Reilly said they expect the woman to be subpoenaed before a county grand jury investigating the charges.
'Those rides got to be a standing joke,' the woman recalled. 'He`d say `Don`t plan anything, I`ve gotta work.` It became a ritual.'
Arriving at the warehouse, she said, 'He`d drive by the entrance and turn on the interior dome light of his car to let the watchman (a mob lookout) know he was on duty. Then he`d drive around and around the warehouse.
'He told me there was gambling there and that he was giving the mob protection. He and the other policeman would take turns covering one of the two night watches while off duty in their personal cars. The other would patrol while on duty in a squad car. That was even better.'
The officers would monitor police calls, she said, and if an event occurred that brought other police to the area, her companion or the other officer, both of supervisory rank, would go to the scene to divert attention from the traffic entering or leaving the game.
The patrols, she said, lasted for at least a year 'that I know of.' The policemen carried a telephone number to call if they spotted a police surveillance or the approach of a police raiding party, she said.
The woman said she has told authorities of witnessing meetings between the men on several occasions, in gasoline stations, to divide up the mob payoffs.
On one occasion in a restaurant, she said, her date took cash out of his pocket and slid the money under a napkin where his partner immediately retrieved it.
She identified a man called 'Pauley' and 'Cuz' as her date`s contact with the game`s operators.
Pixel escape (joelnanakwaku) mac os. On a night in February, 1985, she said, her date pulled his car into the warehouse parking lot and had the lookout summon his contact from the game, using a two-way radio usually reserved to alert the game`s operators of arriving gambling patrons.

The woman said that her relationship with the police officer ended in May, 1985, after he had beaten her at least seven times.
She reported the beatings to Maywood police last October, she said, after the officer again beat her, shoved his service revolver in her face and threatened to kill her. However, Maywood police took no action, she said.
A few days later, she contacted Woods and told him of the alleged payoffs to two of his officers.
Woods said he notified the special prosecutions unit of the state`s attorney`s office and opened his own investigation. The officers denied the woman`s charges and Woods said he was unable to raid the crap game because it reportedly had moved to the neighboring suburb of Melrose Park.

Investigators, however, report that the game was returned to the warehouse several months ago and continued there until details of its operations were disclosed last month in The Tribune.
At that time, Woods and prosecutors reopened their probes of the woman`s charges.
The woman said she is distraught that Woods has not arranged police protection for her and her family. Reilly said he rejected an offer by the state`s attorney`s office to place the woman in that office`s witness quarters.
